The Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Agency (Disparekraf) collaborated with the Indonesia Inbound Tour Operator Association (IINTOA) and the Indonesian Consulate General in Guangzhou to hold a China Market Sales Mission event with a roadshow to two major business cities, Guangzhou and Shenzhen.
Part of the Jakarta Government's international promotion series
This activity with the theme 'Enjoy More The Unexpected of Jakarta' involves various players in Jakarta's tourism industry and aims to increase international tourist visits, especially from China.
Jakarta Disparekraf Head, Andhika Permata said, tourists from China have become one of the most strategic segments in Jakarta's tourism.
According to him, China is a priority market that should be the main focus, with the largest outbound traveler population in the world.
Based on the data obtained, more than 350,000 Chinese tourists visited Jakarta in 2024, making them the largest contributors to the total tourist visits to Jakarta. This number even surpassed neighboring countries such as Malaysia, Singapore, and Japan. Official data shows that the number of Chinese tourists visiting Jakarta reached 150,000 people up to June 2025.
He explained, this significant surge was fueled by several factors, including increased direct air connectivity from major cities in China to Jakarta (Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen); Chinese tourists' interest in metropolitan destinations offering a combination of culture, shopping, culinary experiences, and modernity; and government support through integrated promotion, such as participation in international exhibitions, collaboration with Chinese travel agents, and Jakarta's active presence on digital tourism platforms in China.
"This China Sales Mission activity is part of the Jakarta Government's international promotion series, which will continue to be conducted in various countries that are most potential in a bid to keep pushing the achievement of foreign tourist visitation targets to Jakarta in 2025," he explained, Thursday (9/18).
This event was also attended by more than 150 potential buyers from over 80 tourism industries and tour operators, Garuda Indonesia and China Southern Airlines, as well as media, at the Sales Mission Jakarta event in Guangzhou and Shenzhen.
He explained that the China Sales Mission is packed with updates on Jakarta's tourism policies, networking dinners, product knowledge and destination updates, and table top sessions (sellers meet buyers) with a round-robin scheme.
"Potential transactions generated during the event amounted to more than Rp 8 billion, consisting of tour package bookings, B2B collaborations, and joint promotions between Jakarta and Chinese business actors," he explained.
Jakarta Marketing Section Head, Sherly Yuliana said, Jakarta's tourism industry actors present various exclusive offers in this activity, designed to suit the preferences of Chinese tourists, both for leisure and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions). These include thematic tour packages such as Heritage & Culture (Old Town and National Monument), Shopping & Culinary Experience (Glodok area, Sabang, and Blok M), as well as bundled MICE packages at star-rated hotels.
"We see a very positive trend from the Chinese market. They not only come once but multiple times. Jakarta has everything they are looking for: shopping, culture, food, friendly people, and MICE destination," he added.
International Tourism Marketing Subgroup Chair, Lucky Wulandari stated, through this sales mission, it is hoped to strengthen Jakarta's position as a "must-visit urban destination" for Chinese tourists.
"This activity also opens opportunities for long-term collaboration with stakeholders in the tourism industry in China," he stated.
As information, this activity involves tourism industry actors in Jakarta who are members of Jakarta Hotel Association (JHA), Indonesia Inbound Tour Operator Association (IINTOA), Indonesia Congress and Convention Association (INCCA), Indonesian Exhibition Companies Association (ASPERAPI), Jakarta Travel Agents Association (ASITA), Jakarta Branch Indonesian Travel Agents Association (ASTINDO), Jakarta branch Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI), Indonesian Recreation Parks Business Association (PUTRI), and Indonesian Golf Course Entrepreneurs Association (APLGI).
