The Jakarta Culture Agency officially designates the Manggarai Water Park Water Tower as a Cultural Heritage Building, through Governor Jakarta's Decree No. 403/2025.

The government also urges the community to participate in preserving the existence of the building

The tower built in 1920 in the Nieuwe Zakelijkheid architectural style was declared suitable for preservation and designated as a Heritage Building after receiving a recommendation from the Heritage Expert Team on May 19, 2020.

Jakarta Culture Agency Head, Mochamad Miftahulloh Tamary said, the water tower located in the Balai Yasa Manggarai area is known as one of the vital infrastructures from the colonial era that still stands firm today and serves as a witness to the history of railway transportation in Jakarta.

He stated that, with this new status, the water tower receives legal protection to preserve its original form, function, and historical value.

"Designation of Balai Yasa Manggarai Water Tower as a Cultural Heritage is hoped not only to be a preservation effort but also to open opportunities for the development of the historic area as an educational and tourism destination in Jakarta," he expressed, Thursday (9/18).

As information, the tower managed by PT KAI is part of the development of modern railway transportation infrastructure in Indonesia and has a unique shape, with a water tank structure supported by brick walls, and it is the only one of its kind in Jakarta.

He continued, the Culture Agency will conduct regular monitoring to ensure the authenticity of the shape and function of the tower is maintained.

His party will provide assistance for the restoration and revitalization activities of Cultural Heritage Sites if there are plans to develop the area as a tourist destination, through discussions on the planning of these activities in the Expert Preservation Team (TAP) meetings.

"The government also urges the community to participate in preserving the existence of the building as part of the city's cultural heritage," he stated.
