South Jakarta Mayor Muhammad Anwar appreciates the Indonesian Mosque Council (DMI) of South Jakarta for optimizing mosques' functions as centers for community development and unity among Muslims.
"The central role of DMI is certainly important and strategic,"
Anwar stated that all officials of DMI South Jakarta have worked hard and contributed significantly in realizing the mosque's function beyond just a place of worship.
"The central role of DMI is certainly important and strategic in providing guidance to mosque administrators, especially those in South Jakarta," he said while opening the 5th Regional Leadership Meeting of South Jakarta DMI 2025 at a hotel in Mampang Prapatan, on Monday (9/15).
Anwar urged South Jakarta DMI to keep developing mosques as centers for community education, Islamic study and development, and as venues for dialogue on social issues.
Furthermore, South Jakarta DMI should also reinvigorate Islamic outreach by encouraging the community to deepen their understanding in religion based on the Qur'an and Sunnah.
He added that DMI should also support the empowerment of Mosque and Musala Zakat Collection Units (UPZ) in South Jakarta as strategic institutions supporting Baznas (Bazis) in cultivating awareness and commitment to zakat among both congregants and the surrounding community.
"I hope today's event can serve as a reference for all participants in optimizing DMI's strategic role into comprehensive and measurable work programs," he mentioned.
Meanwhile, South Jakarta DMI Regional Board Chairman, Eddy, explained that the Regional Leadership Meeting (Rapimda), held under the theme "South Jakarta DMI: Fostering Unity and Togetherness to Prosper and Be Prospered by the Mosque", aims to discuss programs that bring tangible benefits to both mosques and the Muslim community.
He stressed that DMI must uphold unity and solidarity among the Muslim community, particularly in South Jakarta, as it bears a moral responsibility in this regard and in ensuring the prosperity of mosques.
"I also extend my gratitude to the South Jakarta City Government for attending this event. Hopefully, this synergy and collaboration will continue to grow in the future," he expressed.
