The Jakarta Provincial Government has opened the fence around Cikini Station in Central Jakarta and installed a pelican crossing on the station's east side. This measure aims to improve public access to the station.
"So now, people going to Cikini Station no longer need to take a long route,"
Previously, people had to walk a longer distance to reach the entrance due to elevated fencing around the station.
"Cikini Station had received complaints because the fence was raised, making it difficult for people to access. So, together with Jakarta City Hall officials, we decided to install a zebra crossing and open up the area," said Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung at the Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency office courtyard on Monday (9/15).
With the new pelican crossing and opened fence, pedestrians can now across directly and enter the station without taking a long detour.
"So now, people going to Cikini Station no longer need to take a long route. They can go straight in," he mentioned.
However, Pramono also urged the public to follow regulations and make proper use of the pelican crossing.
Previously, quoted from a press release by the Jakarta Provincial Government, Head of Jakarta Secretariat's Development and Environment Bureau Head Iwan Kurniawan said the fence at Cikini Station would be opened on Sunday morning (9/14) and become operational on Monday (9/15). The trial implementation of the pelican crossing and the opening of the fence at the station entrance will follow the commuter line's operating hours, from 5 AM to midnight.
"We at the Jakarta Provincial Government are striving to provide a solution to public complaints regarding the fence at Cikini Station," Iwan emphasized.
In addition to preparing the pelican crossing equipped with traffic safety lights, the government will also deploy Transportation Agency and Satpol PP officers to maintain orderly and secure pedestrian flow.
Iwan also urged road users passing by the east side of Cikini Station to obey traffic signs and prioritize safety. He encouraged the public to use pelican crossing facility in an orderly manner.
"Let's work together to keep Cikini Station safe and comfortable by staying mindful of our safety. Be careful when crossing at the pelican crossing," he asserted.
