North Jakarta Bina Marga Sub-agency is building sidewalks and supporting infrastructure along two road segments in Koja Sub-district. The project aims to improve pedestrian safety and comfort while supporting Jakarta's vision as a global city.
"...complete street concept that is pedestrian- and disability-friendly,"
North Jakarta Bina Marga Sub-agency Acting Head, Siti Dinarwenny, detailed that the sidewalks are being built along 950 meters on Jalan Deli, 850 meters on the south side of Jalan Sindang, and 635 meters on the north side of Jalan Sindang.
"These sidewalks follow a complete street concept that is pedestrian- and disability-friendly
. Several facilities are installed along the sidewalks, including bollard posts and tactile paving," she said on Friday (9/12).She explained that construction began in June 2025, carried out by third-party contractors with funding sourced from this year's city budget (APBD).
According to Dinarwenny, the sidewalk construction on Jalan Deli by PT Daya Nusantara Jaya has reached 10.45 percent. On the north side of Jalan Sindang, work by PT Doray Putra Perkasa has reached 31.68 percent, while construction on the south side by PT Patra Kanaka Abadi has reached 22.49 percent.
"Besides enhancing pedestrian comfort, sidewalk on Jalan Sindang will also connect to Jalan Yos Sudarso, improving access to public transportation," she added.
She hopes the project will better accommodate people's needs and make North Jakarta's sidewalks more inclusive, particularly for pedestrians with disabilities.
"We also encourage residents to help maintain and care for the facilities once they're completed," she said.
Meanwhile, a local resident, Widi Adelia, appreciated the sidewalk construction by the North Jakarta Bina Marga Sub-agency, especially those located near markets, schools, parks, and places of worship.
"We fully support this project. It’s great, especially with the complete street concept that offers more safety and comfort. Even public transport users benefit from it. Hopefully, the construction finishes soon," she shared.
