The Jakarta Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) has deployed 59 personnel along with 10 ambulances and five Rapid Reaction Unit (URC) motorbikes to anticipate potential emergencies during demonstrations in Kwitang, Senen, Central Jakarta, Friday (8/29).

Rescue and medical services are our focus

Jakarta PMI hopes this preparedness will minimize the humanitarian impact that may arise from the demonstration.

Head of Jakarta PMI, Beky Mardani said PMI volunteers and fleets are placed at strategic locations to ensure rapid medical evacuations.

"PMI needs to ensure humanitarian services are provided quickly, impartially, and professionally. Rescue and medical services are our focus. No political issues to be involved here," he said.

Beky added that several ambulances were deployed near mass concentrations such as Pemuda DKI Museum, Tugu Tani, in front of Senen Station, and Galur Traffic Light. Then the supporting zones are located at the Penabur Gunung Sahari Traffic Light and around the Jakarta Metro Police Headquarters.

PMI has also cooperated with the nearest referral hospitals namely St. Carolus Hospital, PGI Cikini Hospital, Cipto Mangunkusumo Regional Hospital (RSCM), and Cempaka Putih Islamic Hospital.

"Volunteer safety is also our priority," he stated.
