West Jakarta Health Sub-agency is urging residents to contribute to preventing the rise in measles cases to avoid it escalating into an outbreak.

"... so prevention information truly reaches the public,"

Head of West Jakarta Health Sub-agency, Erizon Safari, said there is a concerning rise in measles cases in Kapuk Urban Village, Cengkareng Sub-district, with 21 reported cases.

"Kapuk Urban Village is our main focus due to the high number of residents affected by measles," he asserted, Thursday (8/28).

Erizon explained that the West Jakarta Health Sub-agency has been conducting extensive socialization and education efforts to the public about measles prevention.

He urged parents to stay alert and act quickly by immediately visiting the nearest health center (Puskesmas) or healthcare facility if their child shows signs of measles.

"If cases rise and spread to other areas, we will take swift action by coordinating with West Jakarta Mayor and other stakeholders," he added.

Erizon called on various parties, including the media and local communities, to get involved in handling measles cases to ensure prevention messages reach the wider public.

"We cannot limit socialization to conventional means inside offices. It must be more intensive, involving media and communities so prevention information truly reaches the public," he stressed.

He added that to prevent an outbreak, measles surveillance has been strengthened in affected areas with case management, strict monitoring of close contacts, specimen submission, and implementation of outbreak response immunization (ORI), catch-up immunization, and rubella vaccination.

"Puskesmas, as health supervisors in their areas, continue to identify monitoring points. If cases are found, they must also educate the community to undergo measles revaccination regardless of prior immunization status," he said.
