Jakarta Governor, Pramono Anung, emphasized that the Jakarta Government will only use part of the sidewalks affected by the excavation project to be used as an expansion of the traffic lanes on Jalan TB Simatupang, South Jakarta.

Sidewalks that can be used are not the entire sidewalks

Part of the sidewalk will also only be used temporarily to address the congestion issue.

"So, what is meant by the sidewalk is the unused sidewalk, the sidewalk that is not in use because there is a project there. And that sidewalk indeed cannot be used as a pedestrian road," Pramono explained, t the Cakung Barat Tower Flat, East Jakarta, Monday (8/25).

He assessed, the sidewalk used to facilitate the smooth flow of traffic is indeed affected by the construction project in that area, making it unavailable for maximum use by pedestrians.

"Sidewalks that can be used are not the entire sidewalks, but only the sidewalks that are currently being used for that project. And indeed, they can't really be used for walking; they are not suitable for that," he explained.

After the targeted excavation is completed in November 2025, it will be followed by repairs to the affected sidewalks so that they can be used to their full capacity by pedestrians.

"Most of the sidewalks used for this project have actually already started to be excavated, and that is what we will then repair and improve," he added.

He hoped this step could help ease traffic congestion on Jalan TB Simatupang. Pramono has also asked the Head of the Transportation Agency to arrange traffic diversion in that area.

Aside that, the government will also add 14 Transjakarta units that pass through Jalan TB Simatupang. The fleet addition is aimed at encouraging the public to switch from private vehicles to public transportation, thereby expected to reduce the volume of vehicles on that route.

"We will also add Transjakarta buses that pass through TB Simatupang. We will add 14 units," he explained.

Regarding the congestion issue, Pramono has also asked the Head of Jakarta Communications and Informatics Agency (Kominfotik) to inform the public about the causes of the congestion on Jalan TB Simatupang.

The congestion occurring is caused by three construction projects. Through this effort, it is hoped that the public can understand the current situation.
