Jakarta City Council's Commission D encourages for accelerating basic infrastructure development and strengthening flood mitigation efforts in the capital.

development programs are implemented on time

This recommendation was delivered by Commission D Chairwoman Yuke Yurike during Jakarta City Council's Budgetary Meeting, Monday (7/28).

"Commission D emphasized the importance of efficiency in the auction process and quality assurance of goods/service providers so that development programs are implemented on time and are able to reduce the remaining budget surplus," she said.

Commission D raised a number of infrastructure issues, including the elevation of bridges over rivers that could potentially impede water flow during floods, such as in the Jatipadang area, South Jakarta.

Regarding flood management, the Water Resources (SDA) Agency is asked to prioritize the construction and repair of U-ditches in densely populated areas, as well as the procurement of heavy equipment as needed.

Commission D also encouraged the transfer of maintenance funding to the Sub-agency level to optimize channel dredging.

In addition, Commission D also requested that an inventory of narrow water channels in slum areas be carried out to serve as a basis for handling and maintenance to prevent waterlogging.

The Public Works, Spatial Planning, and Land Agency (CKTRP) is also encouraged to improve development control, strengthen enforcement against spatial planning violations, and ensure land readiness before implementing infrastructure projects.

Commission D also encouraged improvements to facilities and infrastructure in apartment buildings, such as CCTV, lighting, water supply, and fire mitigation systems, as well as improving the quality of densely populated settlements.

Meanwhile, in environmental management, the Environmental Agency (LH) is recommended to encourage community participation in waste management at the neighborhood (RT/RW) level through incentives and collaboration with corporate social responsibility (CSR).

"Commission D also requested strengthened monitoring of waste movement from the source to the Bantargebang TPST (landfill site), as well as seeking specific solutions for waste management in the Seribu Islands, which still faces various limitations," he stated.
