Jakarta BPBD present in 16 schools starting from elementary, junior, and up to senior high schools.
Jakarta BPBD Head, Isnawa Adji, said this is part of Jakarta Provincial Government's commitment in building community resilience from an early age, especially in facing various disaster risks in urban areas.
"We aim to equip students and educators with a basic understanding of disaster risks in their environment. This knowledge is crucial so they can take appropriate action when faced with an emergency," he said, Thursday (7/17).
The disaster education covers the main points, namely, an introduction to disaster risks around schools, where students are introduced to various types of disasters that have the potential to occur in Jakarta, such as floods, earthquakes, fires, and extreme weather.
This education also includes the early signs of a disaster and its impact on life safety and school facilities.
Then, disaster preparedness steps regarding practical explanations of what to do before, during, and after a disaster occurs, including simple evacuation drills and the importance of following the directions of teachers and officers during an emergency.
The students were also introduced to evacuation signs, the location of fire extinguishers, first aid kits, and assembly points within the school area.
"It is hoped to develop a young generation that is alert, responsive, and capable of becoming safety pioneers in the community," he stated.
