Rambutan 1 Reservoir dredging work in RW 04 and 06, Rambutan Urban Village, Ciracas Sub-district, East Jakarta is progressing steadily, with around 15 percent completed so far.
"W e're dredging the reservoir to a depth of about 1 to 1.5 meters,"
East Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Maintenance Section Head, Puryanto, explained that the dredging work began on May 14, 2025, using a standard amphibious excavator.
"The sediment buildup is quite thick, so
we're dredging the reservoir to a depth of about 1 to 1.5 meters," he said on Tuesday (7/15).He noted, about 1,140 cubic meters of sludge have been removed so far. The dredging will be carried out until October, or around five months in total.
"The current progress stands at 15 percent. We are optimistic it will be 100 percent completed by October," he asserted.
The dredging, he added, aims to increase Rambutan 1 Reservoir's capacity to make it more optimal to prevent flooding.
"Hopefully, this effort will minimize the inundation, especially during heavy rainfall," he mentioned.
Meanwhile, RW 06 Head, Djaya Mursidi, expressed his appreciation to the East Jakarta SDA team for carrying out the dredging project.
"This dredging will significantly boost the reservoir's capacity, which we hope will help mitigate potential flooding," he stated.
He also suggested that flood prevention efforts to be optimized by normalizing three other channels in RT 12, two in RT 14 and one in RT 16.
"It is also important to dredge mud sediment in Cipinang River and build embankments in several RTs in RW 06," he added.
