Jakarta Governor, Pramono Anung, reaffirmed the Jakarta Government's commitment to anticipate and handle floods.
Planning must be in place to prepare
He emphasizes the importance of strategies to anticipate floods that do not have a negative impact on the community.
He delivered the statement in instructions to PPSU personnel, firefighters, Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), Water Resources Agency (SDA), and Health Agency during a visit to the flood points at Ciliwung River Embankment, Rajawati, South Jakarta, Tuesday (7/8).
"Flooding is indeed difficult to avoid. Hence, we must find ways to prevent the flood from having a negative impact on the residents," he expressed.
Pramono emphasized the importance of thorough planning to face it, considering the experience of floods caused by heavy rainfall both upstream and downstream, as well as tidal wave (rob).
"Planning must be in place to prepare for floods like the one yesterday, as yesterday's event was actually unavoidable," he asserted.
He emphasized that flood management must be handled carefully. He also asked his staff to prepare themselves for similar flood scenarios.
Flood on Sunday (6/7) could only be managed optimally after the sea level began to recede at 10:30 PM. As a result, all available pumps could be operated to drain the water into the sea.
"This experience becomes a lesson for all of us," he added.
On this occasion, he also expressed appreciation for the hard work of the personnel in handling the flood. As the frontline, he urged them to continue working hard and with heart.
"Specifically, I want to thank you all because you are the frontline people addressing this issue," he stated.
