Jakarta Transportation Agency Head, Syafrin Liputo explained the development strategy of Intelligent Traffic Control System (ITCS) to overcome traffic jams in Jakarta.
mapping the arrangement of intersections
This strategy was explained by Syafrin in the National Leadership Training Seminar Level II, Class VII in 2025 at the Tavia Hotel Heritage, Cempaka Putih, Central Jakarta.
"This project is related to the strategy to overcome traffic congestion by developing the Intelligent Traffic Control System in Jakarta," he said, Thursday (7/3).
Syafrin explained that there are at least five issues related to congestion in Jakarta. Those are related to the integration of the transportation system, the growth in the number of motorized vehicles that is not comparable to the addition of road sections, traffic accidents and arrangements at intersections.
"According to the analysis result, the key to the problem is mapping the arrangement of intersections," he added.
The massive growth of motorized vehicles has an impact on the morning and evening rush hours. Therefore, his party is trying to minimize obstacles at intersections by implementing ITCS utilizing Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology.
Previously, traffic light at intersections were managed conventionally through the time application. Then it will be replaced with AI technology. Traffic light at intersection will be adjusted according to the AI analysis of the number of vehicle density.
Syafrin continued ITCS is also able to predict traffic movements
. The implementation of this system is believed to be able to minimize or eliminate traffic obstacles.ITCS will also function as a legal enforcement tool. ITCS can act as law enforcement tool or Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement (ETLE) for vehicles that violate the regulations.
In order to get maximum result, Syafrin admitted his rank will cooperate with related parties such as Jakarta Metro Police, Regional Revenue Agency, and Jakarta Environmental Agency.
Syafrin is targeting to implement ITCS at five intersections in the next two months. By the end of this year, ITCS is targeted to be realized in 25 locations and 321 intersections in the next five years.
He admitted that his side will not make changes to the 2025 City Budget in order to realize the project. His party has prepared an ITCS development budget by Rp 120 billion for 25 locations for this year.
Syafrin hopes traffic improvement efforts through ITCS by utilizing AI technology can strengthen intra and inter-city connectivity as one of the important indicators of a global city. It means Jakarta's target of becoming a top 50 global city can be realized in 2029.
