represents one of the marine environmental challenges
The exhibition is run from March to August 2025 and is opened on Tuesday until Sunday.
'Ghost Nets: Awakening the Drifting Giants’ features a stunning art installation made from discarded fishing nets or ghost nets, created by talented artists from Erub Arts, Australia.
Nets that were previously marine waste are transformed into giant sea creatures such as turtles, rays, squid, and fish. All works are displayed hanging in a themed room with an underwater feel, creating an immersive experience for visitors.
Jakarta Cultural Agency Head, Mochammad Miftahulloh Tamary said this exhibition is not just an art event, but also voices concern for the condition of the marine environment.
"This artwork represents one of the marine environmental challenges that the Indonesian and Australian governments are focusing on," he said, Monday (6/9).
Miftah added that the exhibition presents 18 works of art that visualize marine animals that are threatened by the dangers of plastic waste, especially used fishing nets.
The Bahari Museum also provides other educational experiences, such as a mini cinema that plays ocean-themed films. Visitors can enjoy the exhibits while learning about the importance of marine conservation and recycling.
According to him, the exhibition visualizes the sound of the sea through 18 giant sea animal artworks made from used nets. This reminds us to be more concerned and aware of the plastic waste crisis that threatens underwater life.
"Don't miss the opportunity to witness the beauty and powerful messages of the ocean through art," he stated.
