Jakarta Vice Governor, Rano Karno, requested the Jakarta PBSI management to organize a Badminton championship for the Governor's Cup.
If not now, maybe next year for Jakarta's anniversary
According to him, event like this was important for strengthening athlete development by increasing competitions.
"Governor's Cup must be held, meaning the competitions should be increased so that sports in Jakarta grow more," he expressed, when he attended the closing of the Wondr National Badminton Championship Jakarta 2025 at Tanjung Priok Youth Center, North Jakarta, Saturday (5/31).
He continued, the Governor's Cup badminton tournament was most likely to be held in 2026. This was because the budget process for this year had already been finalized and it was difficult to make changes.
"If not now, maybe next year for Jakarta's anniversary," he continued.
He also appreciated the Wondr National Circuit Badminton Championship in Jakarta attended by a total of 1,218 athletes from 250 badminton clubs in Indonesia.
"Championships like this serve as an important platform to filter and hone the talents of young athletes, while also building networking among athletes from various regions in Indonesia," he explained.
He admitted that badminton has long held a special place in the hearts of the Indonesian people and has become a part of their daily lifestyle. This is due to the remarkable achievements of Indonesian badminton athletes who have made the nation proud.
"Appreciation to PBSI, sponsors, and various parties who have been involved in the successful organization of this championship," he concluded.
Jakarta PBSI Chair, Alex Tirta, appreciated the attention and support of Vice Governor Rano Karno towards the sport of Badminton.
Aside that, he would hold a meeting soon to follow up on the proposal to hold the Governor's Cup event next year.
"We will discuss whether the level is national or just Jakarta. After the discussion, it can be mapped out," he stated.
