Jakarta Governor, Pramono Anung, expressed his commitment to preserving and making Betawi culture the main identity of Jakarta as a global city.

Such statement was delivered at the signing of Joint Agreement and Cooperation Agreement on Preservation of Betawi Culture at Borobudur Hotel, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (5/28).

"I warmly welcome the strengthening of cultural partnerships titled Bina Kolaborasi Interaksi Ruang Seni Budaya, referred to as Balairung Sedaya, with the Jakarta Government and also the collaboration with five-star hotels," he expressed.

He appreciatesd the collaboration established between the Jakarta Government and various parties in the effort to preserve the arts and culture in Jakarta, especially Betawi culture. According to the provisions of Law Number 2/2024, Jakarta will become a global city and will promote Betawi culture as its main culture.

"At that time, the Betawi culture must truly be prepared, operated well, and will really become the main face of Jakarta internationally," he explained.

He also revealed that Betawi culture ranks high in a survey conducted by Kearney, a global consulting firm. This is because Betawi culture is deemed multi-ethnic and multi-cultural, integrating various elements such as Malay, Chinese, Portuguese, Dutch, and English.

However, he emphasized the importance of curation and arrangement in Betawi performing arts, especially in events with a packed agenda.

He also welcomed the collaboration established with five-star hotels, including Hotel Borobudur, which will serve Betawi cuisine as the main dish.

He then assured that this collaboration would have a positive impact on the community and the development of Betawi culture. One of which is to open up broader opportunities for artists and cultural practitioners in Jakarta to continue creating, performing, and innovating.

"I urged the Head of Culture Agency to expand activities like this, especially since we can see that the Betawi affairs at the City Hall have become very prominent," he stated.
