Jakarta Governor, Pramono Anung, reviewed the construction of sidewalks and water channel on Jalan Palatehan, Blok M ASEAN, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta.

Blok M will become a busy hub

He intends to make Blok M one of the main hubs and new economic centers in the capital.

"This is a place where we will specifically make improvements and renovations. We'll start with the pedestrian area and then Blok M will be functioned as one of the main hubs in Jakarta," he expressed, Friday (5/23).

This sidelwalk arrangement in Blok along 1.3 kilometers includes Jalan Palatehan, Jalan Palatehan I, Jalan Raden Patah, dan Jalan Raden Patah I.

It is done to prase traffic jams in Blok M area after the launch of Transjabodetabek routes Alam Sutera - Blok M and PIK 2 - Blok M.

Thus far, Transjabodetabek route Alam Sutera - Blok M had served 4,000 to 4,500 people every day. As for the route PIK - Blok M will be a favorite route considering there were 1.4 million visits to PIK at the end of April.

"Blok M will become a busy hub. That's why, we will fix Blok M comprehensively," he stressed.

He added Transjakarta and MRT would also complete development in his respective areas of responsibility in Blok M. Sidewalk is also being arranged to integrate the Martha Christina Tiahahu Literacy Park with Blok M.

He asserted, the sidewalks arrangement is conducted with a priority on providing facilities and access that are friendly to people with disabilities.

"Hopefully, it could boost economic growth in Jakarta," he hoped.

Jakarta Bina Marga Agency Head, Heru Suwondo uttered the arrangement is conducted by connecting the pedestrian along 1.3 kilometers. In the initial stage, it is focused on the areas of Palatehan, Palatehan I, Raden Patah, and Raden Patah I. This pedestrian arrangement is targeted to be completed by October.

"W're also focusing on other areas to continue the arrangement of sidewalks. Like in Saharjo heading towards Minangkabau, in Abdullah Syafei, and also at Fatmawati Junction," he closed.
