This mission also involved a number of film industry players from the Jakarta Film Week, JAFF Market, the Indonesian Film Producers Association (APROFI) and the Indonesian Film Company Association (APFI).
"This is the first step to expand our international network in building a cinema city of Jakarta. Then in the future, Jakarta will also form the Jakarta Film Commission to support the creative industry in the movie industry," Rano said, Thursday (5/15).
Rano explained that the presence of the Jakarta Provincial Government delegation was aimed to introduce Jakarta's potential as a cinema city, as well as strengthening cooperation networks with global film industry players and the governments of big cities such as Paris, Busan, and Cannes.
The series of activities includes participation in international forums, attendance at red carpet film premieres and Indonesian Night event with filmmakers and world creative industry players.
Therefore, for the first time, Jakarta Provincial Government opened the Jakarta–Indonesia Pavilion at the Marché du Film, the world's largest film market which is part of the Cannes Film Festival. Rano assessed that the presence of this pavilion marks a milestone for Jakarta in entering the global film ecosystem.
"Jakarta's participation in the Cannes Film Festival is a part of the government's serious commitment to encourage the progress of national films. Jakarta is also ready to expand its global network and open up opportunities for strategic collaboration for the progress of the domestic film industry," Rano added.
During his visit, Rano was also scheduled to attend the Red Carpet Premiere of the film Renoir at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. The group and delegation will also attend various strategic meetings to expand global networks in the film industry.
The meeting began with Dr. Wilfred Wong (Chairman, Hong Kong Film Development Council); Gary Mak (Commissioner, Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency); delegates from Busan Film Commission, Busan Cinema Center and Busan International Film Festival to attend the opening of Indonesia Industry Gathering and Indonesian Night with Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon.
After Cannes, Rano and the delegation plan to continue their visit to Paris to meet with the Deputy Mayor of Paris, Arnaud Ngatcha. This meeting aims to reactivate the sister city cooperation between Jakarta and Paris.
"Jakarta City of Cinema campaign will be officially launched ahead of the 500th anniversary of Jakarta in 2027," he stated.
