Jakarta Council (DPRD) Commission B Member, Francine Widjojo, expressed her support for Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung's policy of refusing to inaugurate officials who are unwilling to use public transportation to attend the inauguration ceremony at Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday (5/7).
"...sets an example for Jakarta residents that public transportation is much more affordable,"
Francine believes this policy can raise awareness among officials and civil servants (ASN) about the importance of helping to alleviate traffic congestion and reduce air pollution in Jakarta.
"This policy not only targets ASN, but also sets an example for Jakarta residents that public transportation is much more affordable," she stated.
But, she highlighted the importance of adequate supporting infrastructure such as parking facilities for private vehicles at public transportation access point.
Francine shared her experience using Transjakarta from Ragunan to Jakarta DPRD building today. She encountered issues due to limited car parking facilities.
"I tried to use the Ragunan park and ride, but it turned out to be only for motorcycles. The car parking is actually for visitors and closes at 5
PM with an hourly rate," she explained. She also noted that the vertical parking capacity in Ragunan was already full in the morning. As a result, many public transportation users were forced to park their vehicles on the road side or in residential areas.
"These issues need to be considered by Transjakarta and other public transportation providers to ensure adequate parking facilities are available," she asserted.
