East Jakarta Fire Handling and Rescue Sub-agency personnel managed to handle fire that burned a shophouse on Jalan Delima Raya, RT 01/05, Klender Urban Village, Duren Sawit District.

East Jakarta Fire Handling and Rescue Sub-agency Head, Muchtar Zakaria said the fire came from the second floor at 12:06 PM.

"Luckily the shophouse was empty. It is usually used for a learning center," he said, Tuesday (5/6).

He added that 12 firetrucks with 65 personnel were deployed to extinguish the fire.

"Personnel successfully managed the fire at 12:56 PM. There were no fatalities or injuries in the fire which is thought to have been caused by an electrical short circuit," he added.

Meanwhile, Anton (37), one of local residents, admitted he saw thick smoke on the second floor before the fire burned the building.

"Residents tried to extinguish the fire manually but failed. Thanks to the personnel for quickly handling the fire," he admitted.
