From January to April 2025, a total of 67 fire incidents occurred in North Jakarta and Thousand Islands, mostly due to electrical short circuits.

North Jakarta and Thousand Islands Fire Handling and Rescue (Gulkarmat) Sub-agency Operation Section Head, Gatot Sulaeman, stated that from a total 67 fire cases, 40 were caused by electrical short circuits, six by gas leaks, and two by garbage burning.
"There were also two cases due to fire reignition, six due to carelessly discarded cigarette butts, and 11 cases triggered by other factors," he mentioned, Monday (5/5).
By location, he noted that 28 fires occurred in residential areas, 9 in public and commercial buildings, 3 in industrial buildings, and 5 involved motor vehicles.
Additionally, there were 10 fire cases at outdoor installations, 1 at a plant site, 1 at a kiosk, 7 at waste sites, and 3 at other locations.
"Total losses due to fires from January to April reached around Rp 18.5 billion. One fatality and 16 injuries were recorded," he explained.
According to him, March recorded the highest number of fire incidents with 25 cases, followed by 14 in January, 12 in February, and 16 in April.
"Fire incidents in the first four months in 2025 increased by five percent compared to the same period last year," he revealed.
He urged the public to remain vigilant and exercise more caution, especially regarding the use of electrical installation to minimize fire risks.
"We routinely conduct socialization and education on fire prevention.
Residents must enhance their awareness of fire dangers . In case of fire, people can report it by calling Jakarta Siaga 112," he asserted.
