The South Jakarta Water Resource (SDA) Sub-agency is seen dredging the Pelita II Connecting Channel in Cipete Selatan Urban Village, Cilandak.

South Jakarta SDA Sub-agency Head, Santo said the dredging is done to minimize flooding when it rains.

"This is done, as w e received information that the RT 02/06 area, Cipete Selatan is often flooded during heavy rain," he expressed, Sunday (4/27).

This work involves 200 personnel assisted by local PPSU personnel.

"We also send an amphibious excavator to the location. This work is mostly done manually due to limited access," he explained.

He added the channel itself has narrowed and become shallow due to sediment buildup of up to one meter.

After being transported, the mud will first be taken to the Oil Marsh Warehouse before being taken to the disposal site in Ancol, North Jakarta.

"Dredging has been ongoing since April 25 and is targeted for completion on June 15," he concluded.

Hopefully, it could anticipate flooding maximally.

Even, his side will keep maximizing flood prevention efforts that are part of the 100-day work program of the Governor and Deputy Governor, Pramono Anung-Rano Karno.

"We keep intensifying dredging and normalization of the micro and macro channels in Jakarta. Besides Pelita II channel, we also do the same thing in the Karang Tengah, Kaki Grogol, Krukut River, Cideng River channels," he concluded.
