Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung, expressed deep condolences for the passing of the first Latin American leader of the Roman Catholic Church yesterday.

"My deep condolences and heartfelt sympathy on the passing of Pope Francis," he expressed via his personal social media account.

He remembered Pope Francis as a courageous figure dedicated to the Catholic community. He is the first leader of the Roman Catholic Church from Latin America.

He added his loving leadership would be remembered by many.

On that occasion, he hoped that the Catholic community would be given strength in facing this time of sorrow.

"May the community be granted strength during this time of mourning," he stated.
