Central Jakarta Administration conducted foodstuffs price monitoring at Johar Baru Market and Gembrong Market. As the result, the prices are considered relatively under control although there are increase in some commodities.

Mostly under control

Central Jakarta Mayor, Arifin, said the monitoring was held due to routine monitoring ahead of Ramadan month.

"The increase of commodities price is usual ahead of Ramadan. Mostly under control," Arifin said, Thursday (2/27).

Arifin added higher buyer number triggers the price to escalate. People mostly buy various commodities in preparation for Ramadan month.

The significant increase, he continued, is on red cayenne pepper. The price was Rp 80,000 per kilogram, and now Rp 120,000 per kilogram.

Other commodities prices were red curly chili Rp 70,000 per kilogram, red onion Rp 50,000 per kilogram, chicken egg Rp 27,000 per kilogram.

Arifin appealed the public to avoid panic buying. He ensures that the price increase only happens ahead of Ramadan month and the stock is sufficient.

"Please bring environmentally-friendly bag to decrease waste volume," he appealed.

Central Jakarta Food Security, Marine, and Agriculture Sub-agency, Penty Yunesi Widyastuti admitted the commodities price at Gembrong Market is also increasing just like at Johar Market.

Penty added the stock remains sufficient up to Eid ul Fitr.

"Cheap market bazaar will also be held in several locations to stabilize the price," she stated.
