The weather modification run by Jakarta Regional Disaster Handling Agency (BPBD) on Saturday (12/7) up to Monday (12/9) is successfully redistribute rain in Jakarta.
Jakarta BPBD's Secretary, Marulitua Sijabat explained the operation held together with Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) and PT Songo Aviasi Indonesia (SAI) is part of anticipating high rainfall with long duration as predicted by BMKG.
"The operation is run by sprinkling salt or usually called seeding around 800 kilograms into the clouds at an altitude of 8,000 to 11,000 feet," he explained, Monday (12/9).
According to him, the first and second day operations were run on the South Banten Sea, Java Sea, and Serang Banten, as well as the sea around Jakarta.
"The operation is aimed to minimize the impact of high rainfall with long duration as predicted by BMKG," he added.
Jakarta BPBD's Handling and Operation Sub-division Head, Muhamad Thoufiq Hidayatuloh stated there were five flight during the two days operation on Saturday and Sunday.
There was one flight on Saturday (12/7) and four flights on Sunday (12/8).
The operation was held from 7 AM up to afternoon at 5:40 PM based on BMKG's weather prediction and monitoring.
"The temporary resume of activities to reduce the dynamics of cloud growth and the potential for rain entering Jakarta has been carried out optimally," he stated.
