The Jakarta DPRD Deliberative Body (Bamus) is set to hold a meeting to discuss the Revision of Bylaw Number 9/2018 on PT MRT Jakarta starting next week.

We want it to run in January

Jakarta DPRD Chairman, Khoirudin said the meeting to discuss the revision of the regional regulation on MRT was urgent and needed to be completed immediately.

"We want it to run in January. So, in the council's busyness in discussing the APBD, we must also immediately complete the urgent matter for our two BUMDs, the draft bylaw," he expressed, at City Council Building, Friday (11/1).

He explained the revision of the bylaw was to discuss the issue of increasing authorized capital. Thus, PT MRT Jakarta could develop the network from the city to Ancol and from East to West (Medan Satria - Tomang).

"There is a change in capital participation, related to the addition of jobs. The East-West Line in Tomang has to have a larger capital with additional jobs," he explained.

He asserted the revision of the bylaw needed to be completed immediately so that construction of the route development could be executed.

Jakarta DPRD's Bylaw Formation Agency Vice Chairman, Jhonny Simanjuntak added that accelerated regional regulation revision was needed for further development of the MRT network.

"MRT needs expansion or extension of services, so we must revise the regulation as soon as possible," he explained.

In the meantime, PT MRT Jakarta President Director, Tuhiyat explained the reason for submitting the revision of Bylaw Number 9/2018 focuses on the expansion of MRT Phase 2B network from Kota - Ancol and Medan Satria - Tomang.

"It has been planned. Then the route to the city has also been approved by the Ministry of Transportation," he explained.

In the regulation, he assessed, the basic capital listed for MRT construction from Lebak Bulus to Kota was around Rp 40 trillion. Hence, additional base capital was needed to continue the MRT line expansion process.

"Once there is another extension, then we have to bid and process the JICA loan. We can't do this process before there is a legal umbrella because it increases the basic capital," he added.

He uttered the government also wants to expand the scope of the MRT network to other areas. The MRT development network was conducted to integrate public transportation modes in Jakarta and its surroundings.

"We won't be able to do this early in 2025 construction for the phase that we mentioned earlier, East-West, before there is a legal protection or regulation," he stated.
