Disaster simulations of earthquake and fire were held at North Jakarta Mayor Office, Jalan Yos Sudarso, Kebon Bawang Urban Village, Tanjung Priok Sub-district.
The simulation involved Jakarta Regional Disaster Handling Agency, National Search and Rescue Agency, Jakarta Regional Health Crisis and Emergency Center, North Jakarta Fire Handling and Rescue Sub0agency, and local administration.
North Jakarta Secretary's Governmental Assistant, Iyan Sopian Hadi, said the simulation was held to mitigate potential disasters in the North Jakarta Mayor's Office area.
"The simulation was participated by 500 civil servants, PJLP, and society. The simulation is important to anticipate if real disaster occurs," he said, Wednesday (10/2).
Iyan hopes that the flow and mechanism of rescue can be understood when a disaster occurs according to standard operating procedures (SOP). Then, the simulation participants have prime readiness when a disaster occurs.
"Hopefully we can be more alert and calm when facing a disaster with this activity. In addition to our own safety, we also need to pay attention to the people around us," he added.
Jakarta BPBD's Readiness Sub-group Head, Embay Suhaimi, explained earthquake and building fire safety management, as well as first aid methods were given during the simulation.
"The simulation was conducted by reflecting an 8.7 magnitude earthquake, then a fire broke out on one of the floors of the building. The participants seemed enthusiastic about following the directions and heading to a safe location," he explained.
He added that similar simulation will also be held in all city areas and Seribu Island. Continuous training is important to get maximum result.
