The Jakarta Provincial Government is kicking off the preparation of the Jakarta Regional Long-Term Development Plan (RPJPD) 2025-2045 in line with the end of the RPJPD 2005-2025.
On that occasion, various stakeholders were invited to discuss the progress of Jakarta, at Jakarta City Hall, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (1/17).
Jakarta Acting Governor, Budi Hartono, positively welcomed the meeting and appreciated various parties, ranging from the Home Ministry; Finance Ministry; PPN/Bappenas Ministry; Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD); Jakarta BUMD; and private parties. The Jakarta Government was preparing the RPJPD document to make Jakarta a competitive global city.
"This is a reference for the development of the city of Jakarta in the next 20 years, especially making Jakarta a trade center, a center for various services including financial services, as well as national, regional, and global business activities," he expressed, in the Jakarta Government's press release.
He went on to say that the RPJPD together with the Regional Spatial Planning Draft Bylaws (RTRW) and the Jakarta Special Region Bill would be the basis for preparing the City of Jakarta after it is no longer the National Capital.
"Hopefully, in the next twenty years, with this RPJPD, it can be a guide for regional heads to run government and development. Thus, the dream of realizing Jakarta as a global city can be pursued gradually and structurally," he added.
As for the information, the RPJPD kick-off is the starting point of the process of preparing the Jakarta RPJPD document and is a very important moment to inform all stakeholders that the preparation process has begun. Thus, the preparation process will receive support from all related stakeholders, from the beginning of the process until the ratification of the RPJPD document into a comprehensive and accountable document.
It is followed by a panel discussion which will be held until Friday (1/19) by presenting experts in their fields and involving all related stakeholders. Starting from ministries/institutions, legislatures, all levels of Regional Apparatus Organizations and BUMDs, international partners, academics, research institutions, and non-profit organizations, to enrich the substance of the initial draft of the Jakarta RPJPD 2025-2045.
Here are several themes that will be discussed in planning Jakarta to a competitive global city:
a. Jakarta is the Economic Center of Southeast Asia
b. Jakarta's Institutional Transformation towards a Competitive and Adaptive Global City
c. Research and Innovation Development Scenarios in Increasing Global City Competitiveness
d. Role of Green Infrastructure-Based Regional Development in Making Jakarta a Livable Global City
e. Reflections, Strategy, and Policy Direction for Human Development in the Context of Jakarta Towards a Humane and Cultured Global City
Before the kickoff, the Jakarta Government held several activities related to global cities, including assessing Jakarta's position in global cities in the world through several global city indices issued and disseminating Jakarta's plan to become a global city to all regional apparatus within the Jakarta Government.
There are also several thematic Focus Group Discussion (FGD) series regarding global city planning, starting from economic aspects, research and innovation, tourism and culture, city feasibility, environment, and accessibility.
Then the process of preparing the RPJPD 2025-2045 will undergo various stages of preparation involving all related stakeholders, including the Public Consultation stage, the Musrenbang stage, discussions at the DPRD, and an evaluation process at the Ministry of Home. Its preparation is targeted to be completed before the simultaneous regional head elections in 2024 in a bid to make it become a reference for regional head candidates in determining their vision and mission.
