Mangroves are also the best pollutant absorbers in the world

Seribu Islands Maritime, Agriculture, and Food Security Sub-agency (KPKP) Head, Devi Lidya expressed the planting of mangroves is the result of synergy with Koramil 04. It is also a continuation of the community service planting mangroves simultaneously throughout Indonesia which was opened by President, Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo virtually yesterday.

"Besides being a coastal vegetation that can withstand coastal abrasion, mangroves are also the best pollutant absorbers in the world," she explained, Tuesday (5/16).

She explained the entire body of the mangrove is useful, starting from the leaves to absorb pollutants and the roots to strengthen the coast to resist abrasion. In addition, mangrove roots also function as a breeding ground for fish, crabs, and shrimp.

"We fully support the strengthening of the natural coast. Our target this year is to plant 90,000 trees," she added.

It is a momentum for all elements, both government and society to play a role in improving the quality of the environment while expanding green areas.

"Hopefully, it can provide an example for other elements to continue to improve environmental quality," she stated.
