Jakarta Prepares Personnel and Equipment for Floods

The Jakarta administration has prepared all personnel and equipment to minimize the impact of inundation and flooding at several points or areas in Jakarta, on Friday (11/12)

Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Acting Head, Sabdo Kurnianto revealed that all regional apparatus organizations (OPD) including related sub-agencies, urban village heads and RT/RW are always on standby when it rains.

"We also coordinate with all parties to optimize all available resources thus floods recede quickly, especially in areas or points prone to flooding. We prioritize the safety of residents," he expressed, as quoted by Jakarta PPID's release.

It was reportedly rain in several areas of Jakarta occurred at 4 PM. "We also continue to share updated information about the condition of the water level at each sluice gate, and then we inform the residents," he explained.

He asserted, joint personnel such as PPSU, water pumps, firefighters, and coordination with RT/RW was on standby to help people affected by floods. It was also aimed to recede flooding thus roads can be traversed again.

"We coordinate with mayors, Environmental Agency heads, Fire and Rescue Agency heads, Communication, Informatic and Statistic Agency heads, Transportation Agency heads, Water Resources (SDA) Agency heads, Bina Marga Agency heads, Parks and City Forests Agency heads, Social Agency heads, Government Bureau heads, Satpol PP heads, and others," he explained.

According to him, the Jakarta administration continues to monitor the situation of the flood and is ready to deal with it by mobilizing personnel, logistics and equipment to flooded locations.

Aside that, the SDA Agency had dispatched personnel and provided the necessary equipment as a countermeasure, observing the condition of the building/physical, sluice gates, observing the water level of the upstream river and the water level at the sluice gates and reservoirs, determining the condition of the disaster alert status, ordering to the sluice gate officer to take action to open or close the sluice gate based on the water discharge.

Including ensuring that the sluice gates are in good condition, distributing equipment and materials to control floods; also monitors weather forecasts based on information from BMKG.
