Anticipating rainy season and flooding, Semper Barat Urban Village, Cilincing, North Jakarta formed Disaster Resilient Villages and Flood Disaster Preparedness Teams at RW 01 and 04.
" But for anticipation, we form Disaster Resilient Village"
"Of course we hope there will be no floods in our region. But for anticipation, we form Disaster Resilient Village. We have determined evacuation points and health posts with capacity below 50 percent, as well as providing handwashing facilities," informed Benhard Sihotang, Semper Barat Urban Village Head, Wednesday (1/20).
Anticipating flood, Disaster Resilient Villages have prepared public kitchen and procedures in case of flood, including in evacuating residents.
"We have socialized residents in other RWs. Also, when we get updated information from BMKG or BPBD, we will inform it through WhatsApp group that has been formed thus all participants can convey the information to residents," he explained.
Furthermore, his side also formed Flood Disaster Preparedness Teams, consisting of 20 personnel from RT, PKK, and Karang Taruna in each RW 01 and RW 04. Their task is to build public kitchen to serve refugees, collecting their data from toddlers to elderly people, and coordinating with shelter owners or locations that can be used for evacuation.
"Because we are currently in COVID-19 pandemic situation, we also coordinate with health center (puskesmas) to anticipate any resident who carry out self-isolation but need to evacuate due to flood. Most importantly, Flood Disaster Preparedness Teams already have action plans," he mentioned.
