Coronavirus outbreak in Jakarta has not discouraged its citizens from being silent but pushing more city dwellers to grow fruit and vegetables in their homes, providing a potentially lasting boost to urban farming, especially in North Jakarta.
" Its development doesn't have to have a large area yet we can use a pot like in a green alley"
It is noted that since April until June, as many as 23 locations of urban farming in North Jakarta have harvested various kinds of vegetables.
North Jakarta Maritime, Agriculture and Food Security (KPKP) Sub-agency Head Unang Rustanto said urban farming development amid the coronavirus was a realistic food security effort carried out by residents. Moreover, the yields of various types of plants could also fix the family economy.
"Its development doesn't have to have a large area yet we can use a pot like in a green alley," he expressed, Tuesday (9/8).
He mentioned that there were a number of coached urban farming activists who have harvested vegetables, namely Cempaka Rorotan Women Farmers Group (KWT), Gg Hijau RW 02 Pegangsaan Dua, Pademangan Timur Bina Karya Farmer Group, Karang Taruna Gaya Motor Semper Timur, Hijau Daun Warakas Farmer Group and Teratai Sunter Agung KWT.
They succeeded in developing a variety of plants ranging from kale, mustard greens, pakcoy, red spinach, green spinach, red lettuce, corn, samhong, pagoda to various types of Family Medicinal Plants (Toga).
