As many as 250 Jakarta coached athletes received assistance from Social Ministry through collaboration with Indonesia Professional Football Players Association (APPI).
" We hope this assistance can be useful and ease the athletes and coaches"
Symbolically, the assistance in form of staple food packages was handed over to the athletes at Jakarta Youth and Sport Agency (Dispora) Office, Jalan Jatinegara Timur, Jatinegara, East Jakarta, Thursday (8/27).
There were 250 recipients, consisting of 200 athletes and coaches from Student Sport Education and Training Center (PPLOP) Jakarta and 50 athletes with disabilities under coordination of National Paralympic Committee (NPC) Jakarta.
Jakarta Dispora Head, Achmad Firdaus conveyed, this social assistance was provided for athletes and the related parties affected by COVID-19 pandemic.
According to him, in the difficult situation like today, Jakarta Government is committed to give best service by fulfilling the welfare of athletes, coaches, and the related sides.
"Hopefully, assistance from Social Ministry and APPI can ease their burden in the midst of pandemic," he said.
APPI General Manager, Ponaryo Astaman stated, this assistance showed city's concerns for junior and senior football players, both boys and girls, for athletes affected by the pandemic.
The idea to provide assistance was initiated by professional national footballers who were moved to raise donations for anyone affected by pandemic. Fundraising was carried out by auctioning player's jerseys and they managed to collect around Rp 250 million.
Then, the collected money was donated to several institutions, such as BNPB in form of personal protective equipment (PPE) and Social Ministry in form of cash. Social Minister requested some this assistance to be distributed to athletes as well.
"Today, we give this assistance to athletes and the related sides, especially in Jakarta. We hope this assistance can be useful and ease the athletes and coaches. We hope the fellow athletes and coaches to stay enthusiastic," he said.
