Electricity Short-circuit Dominates Fires in South Jakarta

The Central Jakarta Fire and Rescue (Gulkarmat) Sub-agency has noted that fire cases in Central Jakarta area are mostly caused by electricity short-circuit with a total of 54 out of 82 cases throughout May-July 20.

He furthered burning objects were dominated by house building in 35 cases, outdoor installation in 32 cases, commercial building in 10 cases and vehicle in 5 cases. The fires mostly occurred in Cilandak with 20 cases.

It was followed by Jagakarsa, Kebayoran Baru, Pesanggrahan and Pasar Minggu in 10 cases, Kebayoran Lama and Mampang Prapatan in 7 cases, as well as Tebet and Setiabudi in 4 cases.

He added, at least 117 families or 499 people lost their homes during the fire, resulting in an estimated Rp 7,011,400,000 in losses.

"Thus far, we have deployed 135 firemen and 46 fire engines to the scene," he closed.
