Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan has been recorded twice on a working visit abroad, which is a global conference that has advantage of a bilateral meeting with many city leaders and institutions in one place.
He was also invited as a speaker to explain about the development of the city of Jakarta.
Jakarta Gubernatorial and Foreign Affairs Bureau Head, Muhammad Mawardi said that the governor also held two short visits to Singapore namely, to visit the former first lady Ani Yudhoyono and for lectures. It is based on the agreement of Home Minister, Tjahjo Kumolo.
"All are notified and there are replies," he expressed, as quoted by Jakarta PPID press release, Monday (7/22).
The first visit aboard on March 2 was to visit Ms. Ani Yudhoyono who was being treated at National University Hospital (NUH), Singapore.
"This visit uses his personal funds. At that time he did not spend the night, leaving early in the morning and returning to Jakarta in the late afternoon," he explained.
Then on May 3, he became a keynote speaker of The Prymaid's Annual Post-AGM Gala Dinner in Singapore. It based on an invitation of Singapore Home Minister, Vivion Balakrishnan.
He gave a speech in the front of the prime ministers, business leaders, academic figures, cabinet ministers, including the former prime ministers. Even transportation and accommodation were covered by the organizers.
"We applied for a permit application on March 21 and were replied by the minister on April 5," he told.
The first visit wa s to attend in the U20 Mayors Summit meeting in Tokyo, Japan, May 20-21. He became a speaker about climate change. He was the only governor invited to speak in three different forums.
He also gave a special explanation about Jakarta at Sasakawa Foundation and bilateral meeting with Tokyo Governor in order to celebrate the 30th Friendship City Relationship between Tokyo and Jakarta that has been existed since 1989.
This visit was realized through a permit application to the minister that was sent last January.
Then the second visit, the governor flew to Medelin, Colombia and United States on July 8-17, with several meetings such as The World Cities Summit Mayors Forum 2019, USINDO Open Forum and Formula E negotiation to be a host in 2020.
Based on the economic assessment calculated, the city is expected to get a profit around Rp 1.2 trillion when it hosts the Formula E.
He also explained Jakarta's progress to the leaders of other world cities and prepared as a global city. On the departure to Colombia and United States, the city also already filed a permit application to the minister on May 28.
"According to the rules, the minister had to receive it at least 10 days before departure. We always do it a few weeks before. Some even had a few months before and always agreed," said Mawardi.
