City to Improve Chinese Tourist in Jakarta

Chinese tourists are still a promising market for the tourism industry in Jakarta. The high level of tourist arrivals from China, triggering the Jakarta Tourism and Culture Department once again held another Jakarta Roadshow on August 20-21 in Xiamen, China.

"All this time, big cities in China is a potential market for Jakarta tourism. Through the event, we hope it is able to encourage the growth of Chinese tourist arrivals in Jakarta," said Head of Tourism and Culture Department, Arie Budiman, Saturday (8/23).

Budiman stated that Jakarta had an opportunity to become destination of Chinese tourists. In the last five years (2008-2012), Chinese tourist in Jakarta is steadily increasing. Last year, the number of foreign tourists visiting Jakarta was 8.8 million, where 800 of whom are from China.

"Therefore, we're optimistic the number of Chinese tourist in Jakarta will keep increasing in future," he stated.

Head of Promotion Division for Jakarta Tourism and Culture Department, Cucu Ahmad Kurnia added his party is optimistic efforts to bring in more Chinese tourist in Jakarta will succeed. If it is checked at the frequency of direct flights and the average number of passengers are from several big cities in China to Indonesia in each week.

At this time, the frequency of direct flights every week from Beijing, Guangzhou, Hongkong, Sanghai, and Xiaman to Indonesia is reaching 90 flights with 15,000 passengers. of the 15,000 passengers, more than 50 percent are 8,300 with destination to Jakarta.

"This is an indication that the Chinese market is very potential to keep being absorbed," he expressed.

In 2014 Jakarta Roadshow at Westin Xiamen Hotel, table top and gala dinner are also packaged that will present Betawian art and culture and other regions in Indonesia.

"The growth rate of tourists to Jakarta is about 7-10 percent per year. Jakarta Roadshow 2014 also aims to promote Jakarta as a tourist destination that can compete with other regions in Indonesia and other big cities in the world," he finished.
