Commemorating Jakarta’s 487th anniversary, civil servants of Jakarta Provincial Government will hold ceremony at Silang Monas Court, Central Jakarta, on upcoming Sunday (6/22). Different from previous ceremony, this year the civil servants are obligated to wear Betawian traditional clothes. Men will wear sadariah, while women wear kebaya encim.

As a form of appreciation for Betawi culture, which is the real Jakarta’s culture, ceremony’s participants must wear Betawian traditional clothes,” stated Head of Jakarta Communication, Informatics, and Public Relations Department Public Information Section, Eko Hariadi, at City Hall, Friday (6/20).

Moreover, Hariadi informed that the ceremony will be led by Acting Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama. But before it started, a short history of the city will be read first, followed by cone rice cutting by Basuki who will give it to Betawian humanists and central figures, then there will be an inauguration of 400 humanoids or human statues.

After the ceremony, the commemoration of Jakarta’s anniversary will be continued with City Council (DPRD) special plenary meeting. And in the evening, there will be a reception in which guests of honor are invited.

“A number of entertainments such as traditional music Gambang Kromong and photo exhibition ‘Colour of Jakarta’ are scheduled to enliven the event,” told Hariadi.
