Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung emphasized that the tourism and creative economy sectors have made significant contributions to the city's economy. He attributed this positive impact to effective management of growth opportunities and more transparent governance policies.
Jakarta is now becoming a new hub
Pramono made the remarks while flagging off the NHI Family Fun Walk and Charity event at the Ministry of Tourism on Sunday (11/8).
"Tourism and the creative economy are now making a tremendous contribution to Jakarta. This is because we have made the city more open and transparent while making the most of growth opportunities," he said.
He pointed to the Jakarta Running Festival (JRF), which drew around 37,000 participants, including 1,000 runners from 58 countries. The event generated an estimated Rp175 billion in economic activity this year.
Other national and international events, including concerts featuring top artists, have also contributed significantly to Jakarta's economy.
"These activities are being nurtured and managed properly, and Jakarta is now becoming a new hub, what we call an epicenter of events," he added.
According to him, the growth of Jakarta's creative economy was also supported by the city's increasingly integrated public transportation network. The Jakarta Provincial Government continues to expand services connecting the capital with surrounding areas.
"Since taking office as governor, I have developed what is known as Transjabodetabek. Services now connect Bogor, Karawang, Bekasi, Tangerang, and South Tangerang to Blok M, as well as to Cawang, Dukuh Atas, and other areas," he shared.
He said integrated transport services had helped ease traffic congestion in Jakarta. The provincial government has also provided free public transportation to 21 eligible groups of residents.
Deputy Minister of Tourism Ni Luh Puspa welcomed the various creative economy activities taking place in Jakarta, including the NHI Family Fun Walk and Charity event. She expressed hope that the event would contribute to the continued growth of Indonesia's tourism sector.
"I believe the development and growth of the tourism sector are supported, among other things, by the contributions of NHI alumni. The strong bonds among alumni are important in strengthening Indonesia's tourism sector," she said.
NHI Bandung Alumni Association Chair Tantowi Yahya said the event was organized to bring alumni together and strengthen their ties.
"This is the strength of the NHI alumni network, which we can harness to help build our nation. Hopefully, this morning's fun walk will help promote both physical and mental well-being," he said.
