Jakarta Legislative Council Commission A Chairman Inggard Joshua urged the Jakarta Communication, Information, and Statistics Agency to prioritize deploying CCTV surveillance networks in high-risk crime zones throughout the capital city.

He encouraged the Jakarta government to redirect efficiency-driven budget savings from initial CCTV procurement toward expanding coverage in underserved, critical locations.

Rp 80 billion can be reallocated to install CCTVs

According to him, the budget savings could be utilized to expand surveillance coverage, particularly in areas prone to brawls, criminal activity, drug trafficking, and traffic congestion.

He explained that procurement efficiency could be achieved by adjusting CCTV specifications and features based on field requirements. Advanced analytics or specialized surveillance features need not be installed on all devices if they are not required.

"If analytics aren't necessary, why install them? That way, we get savings. Of course, the savings of around Rp 80 billion can be reallocated to install CCTVs in areas prone to brawls, crime, and traffic congestion," Inggard expressed, Wednesday (11/4).

He hoped that the efficiency-generated budget could be swiftly deployed to expand CCTV coverage points, particularly as numerous locations remain in need of surveillance infrastructure to strengthen community safety.

"We expect the Governor to deliver on his commitment to expanding CCTV installation, given that cost savings have been successfully realized from prior deployments. These funds should now be fully leveraged to expand coverage points, ensuring that public safety and security requirements are effectively met," he explained.

He went on to say that CCTV deployment should focus on high-vulnerability locations, particularly zones susceptible to illicit drug distribution. Expanding the surveillance network aims to maximize area monitoring and bolster proactive crime prevention.

Additionally, he urged all regional executive departments working with Commission A to formulate budgets aligned with strategic priorities. In light of constrained municipal financial capabilities, all spending must be precisely targeted to yield concrete benefits for residents.

"It is essential that budget allocations remain strictly targeted to safeguard the interests, protection, and security of the public," he concluded.
