Portal barriers have been installed at five access points along the Antasari Non-Toll Elevated Road (JLNT) to deter illegal street racing that has long disturbed the public, as well as to improve the safety and security of road users.
South Transportation Sub-agency Head Bernad Oktavianus Pasaribu stated the barriers are set up to follow up on community grievances over frequent illegal racing activities in the Antasari JLNT area.
We’re closing road access during designated hours
"Together with the three pillars of local governance, we’re closing road access during designated hours to ensure collective safety and security," he expressed, Monday (11/2).
According to him, the barrier gates at all five Antasari elevated flyover entrances and exits are fully installed.
The distribution comprises one gate at the Blok M Terminal on-ramp in Melawai, two at the South Jakarta Mayor's Office on-ramp in Petogogan, one at the Al-I'tisham Mosque on-ramp in Cipete Selatan, and another at the Pasar Cipete Selatan off-ramp in Cilandak Barat.
"All barrier units are operational and ready as the policy rolls out. The traffic closures are set to take effect starting November (11/14), running every Saturday and Sunday between midnight and 4 AM," he expressed.
He noted that public awareness campaigns regarding the weekend closures are actively underway across the South Jakarta City administration’s official social media platforms.
Bernad hoped that the measure would effectively stamp out street racing that endangers motorists and poses serious accident hazards.
"Hope this measure will go beyond suppressing illegal races to establish traffic discipline and avert other safety disruptions in the vicinity," he hoped.
