Local residents welcomed the completed retaining wall repairs along the Agung Perkasa Connecting Channel in Sunter Agung, Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta.
RW 16 Chairman for Sunter Agung Urban Village, Anthony emphasized that the repairs were critical to preventing further soil erosion and safeguarding locals, noting that the roadway along the channel bank sees high volumes of vehicular traffic.
Our priority is reinforcing the collapsed retaining wall
"Delaying these fixes could have worsened the collapse and put residents in danger. We appreciate the swift response and look forward to continued cooperation with city officials," he expressed, Monday (11/2).
The same appreciation from the local security officer Indra (52).
"We hope the project wraps up quickly so normal neighborhood traffic and daily routines can fully resume," he added.
He assessed the aging condition of the retaining wall had made the structure increasingly vulnerable to erosion from the water flow.
"We can see that the personnel are working meticulously to reinforce the structure," he added.
Tanjung Priok Water Resources Sub-agency Inspector Abdul Rosyid explained the repair responds directly to community input while restoring structural stability following a localized collapse.
"Our priority is reinforcing the collapsed retaining wall so the channel bank can safely support the surrounding ground," he explained.
Rosyid detailed that the sheet pile segment under repair spans 50 meters in length and 3.5 meters in height, featuring a tapered design with a base thickness of 70 centimeters narrowing to 30 centimeters at the top.
"Work began on July 15, with progress currently past 50 percent. The work is targeted for completion this coming December," he explained.
He noted that eight personnel and a heavy excavator were deployed to assist with channel dredging. The retaining wall structure is being reinforced using a combination of stone masonry and cast concrete.
"Through these repairs, we hope to minimize potential damage and ensure the channel operates at optimal capacity," he concluded.
