The Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Agency continues to strengthen its flood control infrastructure and water conservation zones.
As part of these strategic efforts, the agency is currently upgrading the inlet-outlet flow system at the Cimanggis 1 and 2 Reservoirs on Jalan Radar Auri, Cibubur, East Jakarta.
Cimanggis 1 and 2 will serve as a multifunctional public hub
Reservoirs 1 and 2 occupy roughly 1.6 hectares with a retention capacity of 20,648 cubic meters. In total, the 3.9-hectare Cimanggis Reservoir complex—encompassing Reservoirs 1, 2, and 3—holds up to 90,353 cubic meters of water.
Far from just a technical flood control facility, the development is set to double as a vibrant blue-green open space for the surrounding community.
Development across the Cimanggis Reservoir site is progressing in phases to ensure the project meets its goals and delivers maximum benefit to residents.
Jakarta Geology and Raw Water Conservation Sub-group Head Ikhwan Maulani said the Cimanggis 1 and 2 Reservoirs are designed to maximize local flood control, retention capabilities, and overall water management.
The reservoir project also boosts ecological health and groundwater conservation through a safe, eco-friendly blue-green space.
"Cimanggis 1 and 2 will serve as a multifunctional public hub for recreation, sports, and eco-education, fostering social interaction while upgrading water management," explained, Friday (10/30).
He explained that construction on the Cimanggis 1 and 2 Reservoirs has reached 78 percent progress to date. On-site work encompasses various supporting construction elements to ensure the reservoir operates optimally, both in terms of hydrological engineering and its social function.
Ongoing and completed developments feature culvert replacement, an outdoor gym, reinforced concrete retaining walls, elevated embankments, concrete road paving, and inlet wall enhancements.
Alongside flood defenses and access roads, the facility incorporates public amenities such as the Reservoir 1 Viewing Platform.
To protect the local ecology and stabilize reservoir slopes, the agency is deploying hydroseeding alongside erosion control matting, according to Ikhwan.
The agency remains optimistic that the Cimanggis 1 and 2 Reservoirs will deliver lasting flood control and environmental benefits for East Jakarta.
"We aim to make this a multifunctional public space for recreation, sports, and eco-education that drives positive social interaction across the community," he stated.
