The Jakarta government is strengthening residential waste management by bridging community needs with corporate support.

Through the Environmental Large-Scale Social Collaboration (KSBB) Program, the provision of waste management facilities is paired with community training, empowering residents to easily sort waste at home and process it within their neighborhoods.

Everyone must take responsibility for the waste they produce

By turning trash into valuable resources, local neighborhoods are taking waste recovery into their own hands.

RW 06 Srengseng Sawah in Jagakarsa is leading the charge. Through Jakarta’s Environmental KSBB initiative, the Environmental Agency links neighborhoods with corporate sponsors—delivering everything from collection tools and composting gear to hands-on sorting workshops.

Jakarta Environmental Agency Vice Head Purwanti Suryandari emphasized that sorting waste at home is the crucial first step to ensuring refuse is properly treated based on its type.

She explained that equipment support and education provided through the Environmental KSBB must go hand-in-hand with consistent household sorting habits.

This action directly aligns with Governor's Instruction No. 5/2026 on the Movement for Waste Sorting and Processing at the Source.

Purwanti explained that this policy shifts the waste management paradigm from collect, transport, and dump to sort, transport, and process.

"Everyone must take responsibility for the waste they produce by sorting it at home. Reusable waste needs to be separated and repurposed so that not everything ends up at the Bantargebang Landfill," she expressed, Thursday (10/29).

She stated that the Environmental KSBB initiative creates an open platform for external partners to drive real change. Support ranges from supplying essential infrastructure to delivering hands-on guidance that helps residents build daily sorting habits.

At RW 06 Srengseng Sawah, PT BRI Multifinance Indonesia (BRI Finance) joined as a key collaborator, handing over two electric motor carts, seven 200-liter composter drums, and a compost sifting machine capable of processing 100–150 kilograms per hour.

The donation package also featured 145 eight-liter buckets, 10 twenty-liter buckets, 11 sixty-liter drums, and five 120-liter waste bins.

"Waste sorting workshops were also delivered to local children and teenagers to instill good habits early on," she added.

BRI Finance President Director Susatyo Wijoyo emphasized that tackling the waste crisis demands all hands on deck. He noted, corporate participation through the Environmental KSBB aims to support field workers while empowering residents to take charge of local waste management.

"Hope this equipment lightens and speeds up the daily work of our sanitation workers on the ground, while encouraging households to build a consistent habit of sorting trash at home," he hoped.

Srengseng Sawah Urban Village Head Sunardi stated that the Environmental KSBB effectively bridges neighborhood needs with immediate, hands-on support for residents.

He added that the new equipment deployed in RW 06 serves as a major catalyst for the community to ramp up local waste sorting and processing efforts.

"Through consistent sorting, valuable waste can be repurposed and reused by residents—maximizing waste management efficiency right at the neighborhood level," he stated.
