Governor Pramono Anung outlined Jakarta's strategic milestones—from modernizing public transit to leveraging creative financing—during his keynote address at the Kearney at 100, Jakarta at 500 forum at The Ritz-Carlton Jakarta Pacific Place on Wednesday (10/27).

Pramono highlighted that Jakarta’s economic sector achieved a solid 5.52 percent growth, accompanied by a public confidence index standing at 150. Meanwhile, the city’s Global Cities Index rank also climbed from 74 to 71.

On the transportation front, Jakarta has undergone a massive transformation through the expansion of the Transjabodetabek transit network into neighboring buffer regions, alongside seamless multi-modal integration.

"The most fundamental transformation during my two-year leadership has been in our transit system. Prior to this, Transjabodetabek simply didn’t exist in Jakarta," he expressed.

He went on to say that transit connectivity in Jakarta continues to climb, currently reaching 93 percent. He emphasized that these efforts have successfully incentivized up to 15 percent of residents to shift from private vehicles to public transit.

"That's why, perhaps without many realizing it, Jakarta is now ranked as the 15th best city in the world," he continued.

The Jakarta government is also actively targeting social inequality and reducing the Gini ratio through sustained funding in education, healthcare, and social protection.

Key educational initiatives include expanding coverage for the KJP and KJMU grants, resolving withheld school diplomas, and introducing the new Jakarta LPDP scholarship program next year.

Pramono explained that funding for Jakarta’s development projects relies not solely on the city budget (APBD), but also on creative financing mechanisms.

At the forefront of this strategy is hosting major global and national events, from Kanye West’s concert to the Jakarta Running Festival. To ensure flawless execution, the city even deployed weather modification technology to keep conditions pleasantly cool.

Pram emphasized that these mega-events deliver a massive multiplier effect, driving substantial economic circulation across Jakarta.

Concurrently, the Jakarta government is tackling flooding and waste head-on. To permanently resolve mounting waste, the city will construct three waste-to-energy power plants.

Jakarta already operates a state-of-the-art waste management system—the Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF) facility in Rorotan. On top of that, the city’s waste infrastructure has transformed to enable sorting and processing right at the source.

Tackling chronic issues head-on, the city is also deploying end-to-end solutions for flooding and waste—headlined by plans to build three waste-to-energy power plants to eliminate accumulating trash.

On flood mitigation, the Jakarta government is pushing aggressive river dredging and normalization during the dry season to stay ahead of peak rainfall.

Pramono reinforced the city's commitment to full transparency and accountability in managing every cent of the public budget for urban development.

"We operate on radical transparency in Jakarta's administration. Anyone can track our daily tax revenues and expenditure in real-time. Everything is now fully open and transparent," he stated.
