Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung led the 98th Youth Pledge Day ceremony at Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday (10/28).
Reading an address from Youth and Sports Minister Erick Thohir, Pramono called for building patriotic and empathetic youth.
We must build a future generation
He noted that the 98-year-old pledge remains a milestone for national unity that must be maintained through real action. National development goes beyond physical infrastructure, advanced technology, or economic prosperity, expanding into human capital, strong character, patriotism, and social empathy.
“Because of this, we must build a future generation that embodies patriotism, resilience, and empathy,” he explained.
He explained that true patriotism demands action and dedicated service, while resilience equips young people to persevere through obstacles and setbacks.
Empathy, he added, ensures that personal achievement does not overshadow civic duty and compassion for marginalized communities.
Encouraging young Indonesians to dream big and work tirelessly, Pramono urged them to spearhead national growth while keeping social awareness intact.
“Become a generation that dares to lead yet remains willing to serve—one that stands firm for its nation while reaching out to support others,” Pramono explained.
He emphasized that the future of Indonesia is a shared responsibility that must be built through knowledge, achievement, dedication, and the spirit of humanity.
“Let us build a generation that is patriotic in dedication, persistent in struggle, and empathetic in humanity. For the nation's future is not merely something we encounter; the future is something we are building together,” he concluded.
