The Jakarta Cultural Agency officially inaugurated the Rawa Belong Cultural Village on Saturday (10/24) in a lively festive gathering. Designed as a showcase of Betawi heritage, the event brought together local art studios, community groups, and cultural performers.

The inauguration is a follow-up to a series of studies, research, and development mentoring conducted by the Jakarta Cultural Agency from 2022 to 2024.

This inauguration provides a key momentum

The effort focused on identifying potential, mapping local traits, and guiding cultural village growth.

Findings highlighted five key cultural epicenters: Rawa Belong (West Jakarta), Marunda (North Jakarta), Tanah Abang (Central Jakarta), Petukangan (South Jakarta), and Condet (East Jakarta).

Jakarta Cultural Agency Head Mochamad Miftahulloh Tamary noted that the Rawa Belong launch breathes life into the agency's research through arts-and-culture-based community events.

“This inauguration provides a key momentum to feature the rich Betawi heritage growing right at the grassroots level,” he expressed, Tuesday (10/27).

He emphasized Rawa Belong's strong cultural foundation, citing its distinct identity, symbolic representation of Betawi heritage, and vibrant network of active art collectives.

Aside that, prominent cultural leaders, ongoing traditional arts, and shared public space utilization further define the area’s rich cultural ecosystem.

Miftah added that the 2026 launch engaged 10 to 15 local art studios and nearly 100 artists, welcoming around 400 attendees.

“The inauguration offers a dedicated platform for local studios and communities to display the traditional heritage that forms this neighborhood’s unique identity,” he noted.
