The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) conducted socialization, education, and disaster simulations at Bakti Idhata High School, Cilandak Barat Urban Village, Cilandak District, South Jakarta.

The Platoon Commander of the South Jakarta BPBD, Muhammad Nur, said that this activity aims to increase the preparedness of school residents in facing potential disasters, especially earthquakes, through providing material and self-rescue simulations.

Understand the proper steps

According to him, early disaster education is important so that students, teachers, and education personnel have a good understanding and emergency response skills.

"We want to ensure that students, teachers and education staff understand the proper steps to save themselves," he said, Monday (10/26).

Nur explained that the socialization materials included proper shelter techniques during an earthquake, an introduction to disaster equipment for water rescue, and information about the official channels and disaster education services of the Jakarta BPBD through its website and social media.

"Today's activity was attended by 173 participants, consisting of 163 students and the others were teachers and school committee members," he explained.

In addition to receiving theoretical training, Nur continued, participants took part in live simulations to train their ability to deal with emergency disaster situations.

Meanwhile, Bakti Idhata High School Principal, Lulus Juharman, appreciated the collaboration with BPBD in improving early disaster preparedness in the school.

"Hopefully, we can all get this socialization again in the future. It's very important, considering that disasters can strike at any time," he admitted.
