To strengthen maritime safety and preserve local marine ecosystems, the Seribu Islands Food Security, Maritime, and Agriculture Sub-agency deployed 30 lifebuoys across six islands in designated marine protected areas (APL).

Seribu Islands Maritime and Fishery Section Head Gama Eka Anantha stated the buoy installation is part of a marine conservation effort conducted alongside Community-Based Marine Protected Area (DPL-BM) groups.

Deploying these lifebuoys is a practical conservation step

"Deploying these lifebuoys is a practical conservation step to ensure public safety while preserving marine biodiversity in designated protected zones," he expressed, Thursday (10/22).

He explained that installations have been completed on Sabira Island, Tidung Island, Lancang Island, Pari Island, Payung Island, and Pramuka Island, with each location receiving five ring buoys placed in its marine protected area.

The program will be expanded to Kelapa Island and Harapan Island, with installations on both islands scheduled for November.

"Installations on Kelapa and Harapan islands are set to follow next month," Gama explained.

He added those buoys are strategically positioned in high-traffic zones and areas prone to maritime accidents. It aims to provide vital safety support for locals and visitors active along the coastline and surrounding waters.

Beyond providing safety equipment, the initiative calls for active participation from coastal communities to foster shared responsibility for preserving protected areas.

"Through community-based management, we hope to raise public awareness and commitment to marine ecosystem conservation," he explained.

The program received appreciation from the Muhammad Ali, Chair of RW 03 in Harapan Island Urban Village.

"We welcome and support this buoy deployment. Hope these facilities serve the community well while boosting collective awareness in safeguarding our ocean waters," he emphasized.
