Under the theme "ENCOUNTERS," Jakarta Film Week (JFW) 2026 was officially inaugurated by Jakarta Vice Governor Rano Karno at CGV Grand Indonesia in Central Jakarta on Thursday (10/22). The international film festival takes place from October 21 to 25.

He added that this year's festival opening was particularly special due to the attendance of legendary Hong Kong action film star and martial arts choreographer Sammo Hung.

Beyond attending the opening ceremony, Rano explained that Sammo Hung will also share his extensive experience during a masterclass session at the festival.

He went on to say that JFW 2026 will span multiple screening sites and creative spaces in Jakarta, including CGV Grand Indonesia, Galeri Indonesia Kaya, Mercure Jakarta Cikini, Paviliun Raden Saleh ARTOTEL, Taman Ismail Marzuki, and CGV FX Sudirman.

He emphasized that putting Jakarta on the global map through film requires a solid foundation for the local industry. By doing so, the capital can evolve into a world-class hub for cinema that delivers real impact for local communities and creative workers.

“Hopefully, this event nurtures new talent and projects that make Indonesian cinema a force on the world stage,” he hoped.

Culture Minister Fadli Zon praised the Jakarta government and organizers for hosting JFW 2026, describing the event as a key gathering place for the film community.

"The festival is an important stage for artistic expression and cultural exchange, reflecting the ongoing advancement of Indonesian cinema," he explained.

Meanwhile, Jakarta Film Week 2026 Festival Director Rina Damayanti hoped the weeklong event would spark creative inspiration among filmmakers and nurture fresh cinematic talent.

She took the opportunity to thank everyone involved in backing the festival.

“My heartfelt gratitude goes to the Jakarta Administration, the Ministry of Culture, as well as the Jakarta Film Commission for their ongoing support,” she closed.
