The South Jakarta Parks and Forestry Sub-agency pruned 32 trees at risk of falling in the Cilandak and Pasar Minggu districts. This action was taken to prevent the risk of trees or branches breaking or falling due to strong winds and rain.

Part of a routine program

Pruning Supervisor of the Sub-agency, Sobari said the pruning is part of a routine program that targets districts in South Jakarta.

Sobari explained that the pruning activity involved all Green Troop personnel assigned to 10 districts in South Jakarta.

Based on species, the glodogan trees were the most frequently pruned, reaching seven. Next, there were six banyan trees and five mahogany trees.

"The rest are various other types of trees with one to two trees for each type," he explained.

According to him, the trees that were pruned were the result of monitoring by officers in the field as well as suggestions or requests from the community who felt the condition of the trees needed to be addressed.

"I urge residents who see trees whose structures are worrying, to immediately report them to the local government or directly to us," he appealed.

Meanwhile, one of the residents, Ricky, appreciated the pruning carried out by the personnel because it made the environment brighter, especially at night.

"Overgrown trees often block the light from streetlights at night. Pruning them makes us feel more comfortable," he admitted.
